John Reese was born on 13 February 1841 at Cove Creek, Washington County, Arkansas, son of William W. Reese and Frances Halbert.
John Reese Quoting Glenda Ward:
John Reese, a Native of Washington Co., Ark. He enlisted in Oct. 1862 on Col. Harrison's First Arkansas Cavalry, US Army. He was captured in the battle of Prairie Grove, and after being held prisoner for a month, was released and returned to his regiment in March 1863. He was discharged in Aug. 1865, and shortly afterward returned to Arkansas. In 1876 he located upon a frm with 165 acres under cultivation, mostly bottom land. Seven acres of orchard with the many improvements he provided a comfortable hhome for his family. (Info from Goodspeed, Ark. History).
At age 27, John married Martha Jane Hodges , daughter of William H. Hodges and Martha B. Larremore. John and Martha were married on Thursday, 4 June 1868; Martha Jane Hodges is 1st cousin to James Jackson Larremore, John's sister husband.
